About you:

Maybe you’re a remote control gadget guru, maybe not. But you’ll certainly be keen to ‘drive’ our advanced camera tech. You’ll also have previous drainage experience, an OX19 certificate, current CSCS card and high-pressure water jetting certificate. Confined spaces and NRSWA qualifications are an advantage, but not essential.

You will need a UK driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points, enjoy working outdoors and be happy to interact with customers and the public. An appreciation of health and safety issues is a must.

You need to be flexible too: we operate 24/7 so there will be early starts, weekend working and an out-of-hours call out rota.

The job:

Working from one of our custom-equipped, hi-tech vans, you’ll visit all types of clients — commercial, residential, industrial, rail, road, utility, etc. — across the region. You’ll carry out CCTV surveys of drainage systems, assess pipe conditions, analyse results and produce high quality reports. And you’ll check and maintain the kit regularly to make sure it’s in top condition. It’s all crucial work.

The Lanes Group is looking for a CCTV Assistant to support to the CCTV Engineer and boost the team and manage our increased workload to our growing depot network in Birmingham. You will be joining a depot of around 20 + Engineers, including JetVac Engineers, CCTV Engineers, Vanpack Engineers, Excavation Teams and Drainage Assistants.

The areas we cover are the West Midlands, Shropshire, Coventry and Tamworth.

The job:

  • You will be trained and become familiar with CCTV equipment that montior's the water through the Utilities pipes. This equipment measures the heights and depths of the pipe, as well as checking for any damages that needs to be recorded.
  • You will use the CCTV equipment to measure the heights and depths of the pipe, as well as to check for any damages that needs to be recorded i.e. debris in the pipe or grease build up.
  • Initially the role will involve, you accessing the pipe via manhole covers to put the CCTV camera down the pipe with accuracy.
  • You will then carry out majority of the work from your van which has been installed with the CCTV and computer system for you to carry out the work.
  • You will be using a tablet to keep records of the work you are carrying out which involves crucial paperwork to be carried out as this needs to be reporting back to the clients you are carrying out the work on behalf of.

*An example of the work... a new housing estate is built and there is a requirement to check the pipes for pre adoption this means sign off for the pipes. the work involved is as above and this is recorded on the tablet for the pre adoption paperwork to be completed.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 7am - 3.30pm Core Hours

*Training:

You will receive 2-3 days training offsite from the CCTV Systems Manager and the team to go over the full position. The training will consist of a detailed breakdown of the equipment and how to use the equipment to show the drains and their defects.

You will be shown how to use Excel to do site drawings that show the layouts of the drains so the team can easily identify where the defects or damages are within the drains.

As well as this you will be shown how to use the internal CCTV system to record the drains and be shown the coding that identifies differ aspects of the drain.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has an interest in gaining a career in a field based role where you will be hands on in the operations.

Key skills required:

  • Driver
  • Ability to work in a 2 person team
  • IT skills including Excel
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • OX19 Preferrable
  • CSCS Card Preferrable

The job:

As part of a team, you’ll be shadowing/assisting a drainage engineer. The role will include a number of drainage related issues, including emergencies such as blockages and cleaning pipes during maintenance programmes.

What is essential is the ability to work safely to quickly diagnose and deliver practical and efficient solutions to attain the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

We operate 24/7 which means you will be required to be flexible. Full training/PPE/use of company equipment will be provided to ensure that all our Service Engineers have the right tools, competency and confidence to undertake the work to Lanes’ high standard of operation regardless of background or previous experience.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 7am- 3.30pm Core Hours.

About you:

The Lanes Group need an experienced groundworker to lead in a two person team in supporting and managing the increased workload in our Sheffield Depot.

The job

You will be leading and working in a two-person team on groundwork projects, drainage-related minor repairs, reinstatements, pipe work renewals and patch lining fixes.


Your schedule will vary to include all types of clients and worksites, you will be travelling throughout the region in a company commercial vehicle with the Excavation Assistant, carrying out work from commercial and residential to industrial, rail, road and utility. You will be adhering to health and safety procedures and compliance.


Working Hours: 8am-4.30pm however flexibility will be needed at times for overtime of work and any extra travel requirements.

*Hourly rate up to £14.25 dependent on experience*

About you:

We are looking for an experienced groundworker/labourer from ideally drainage/ construction who has some experience in some or all of the following however further training can be given:

  • Flagging and Paving
  • Concreting
  • Tarmacking
  • Block paving
  • Bricklaying

You will be a hard working team player who is used to working in all weather conditions. You are at the forefront of the customer and will be required to communicate respectfully with clients and the public when necessary.

You will need an up to date CPC card, CSCS card and NRSWA qualification, Confined spaces, shoring ticket and NPORS excavator training, first aid training would be an advantage, but not essential.

You will need a Full Driving License with no more than up to 6 points.

Training:

Ideally you will join us with your CPC Card and NRSWA qualification, however, as long as you are willing and committed to the role offered, training can be discussed before appointment and you will undergo further training upon appointment.

Although you start at the depot, you will be mobile attending to all work activities, within various work sectors, including industrial, rail, utility, commercial, residential.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week (8am-4.30pm), Being flexible is essential as you may be required to start early due to travel.

About you:

You may already be familiar with high pressure jetting equipment and / or drainage networks, but no problem if not, as full training will be given for the right candidates.

You will be required to hold an HGV Class 2 licence, with no more than 3 penalty points. A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is desirable but not essential as Training can be provided.

You can become a successful Utilities Waste-Water Technician if you have problem-solving, listening, critical thinking, teamworking abilities and a customer focussed approach. Also, as you need to operate machinery, excellent hand-eye coordination and concentration are essential skills. The following skills are also useful:

  • Competent in using an electronic device – laptop / tablet for data entry.
  • Physical fitness and lots of energy.

  • Previous drainage / utilities experience and experience of liaising and leading a team
  • Ability to schedule work to ensure maximum productivity and optimum asset usage
  • A full driving licence is also required

The Lanes Group have a position available for a Trainee Drainage Engineer, to join our growing depot network in Birmingham.

About you:

You’re a hard worker seeking to start a career in the drainage industry. You’re polite and respectful when dealing with customers and the public and observe all health and safety procedures. You will also have a clean Driver's licence.

The job:

No Drainage experience is necessary as we will train you to the appropriate standard. As part of a team, you’ll be shadowing/assisting a drainage engineer. The role will include a number of drainage related issues, including emergencies such as blockages and cleaning pipes during maintenance programmes.

What is essential is the ability to work safely to quickly diagnose and deliver practical and efficient solutions to attain the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

We operate 24/7 which means you will be required to be flexible. Full training/PPE/use of company equipment will be provided to ensure that all our Service Engineers have the right tools, competency and confidence to undertake the work to Lanes’ high standard of operation regardless of background or previous experience.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

What is essential is the ability to work safely to quickly diagnose and deliver practical and efficient solutions to attain the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

We operate 24/7 which means you will be required to be flexible. Full training/PPE/use of company equipment will be provided to ensure that all our Service Engineers have the right tools, competency and confidence to undertake the work to Lanes’ high standard of operation regardless of background or previous experience.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 50 hours per week (7am-5pm, 30 mins unpaid lunch), being flexible is essential due to travel requirements.
